ATTENDANCE/ABSENCE POLICY
There are no refunds, credits or make-up lessons for student absences. Prior notice does not exempt the student from paying as contracted, nor does it grant the student a make-up lesson at no charge. Instructors are under no obligation to make up student absences. It is sometimes possible to switch lesson times with another student if we are given several days’ advance notice. As a courtesy to the instructor, please call to notify us if you are unable to come to a lesson. To report an absence, call 860-767-0026 and select option 2.
An instructor’s absence or school closure requires that all missed lessons will be made up during the semester, or the student’s account will be credited. Any credits owed will be computed and applied at the end of the semester.
STUDENT WITHDRAWAL
Registration obligates the student to complete the semester. No refunds are made for student withdrawal except for new students (in their first semester of lessons) who withdraw after 9 weeks, or in extreme circumstances. Notice of withdrawal must be made in writing to the Business Office. New students who withdraw after 9 weeks of lessons receive a refund for the balance of the semester. In all other cases, including Kindermusik, the decision to grant a refund is at the discretion of the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees.
HOLIDAYS
Please check the school calendar for days when the music school is closed. These are not necessarily the same as public schools. Also, different school systems have different vacation week calendars – yours may not match ours! When CMS is closed for vacation weeks, the Business Office is generally open.
INCLEMENT WEATHER
If CMS is forced to close for bad weather, there will be a message on the school’s telephone greeting at 860-767-0026 as well as on the home page of our website. If an individual teacher cancels, they will contact students directly. Please do not assume that CMS is closed based on public and private school cancellations. It is not unusual for us to open at noon on days when the schools are closed – like any business, we open when the roads are clear.
