Homeschool Program

   

This pilot program during the spring of 2010 will allow homeschool families to choose from a number of class offerings on Monday mornings.

FIRST SESSION (Monday mornings, February 1 through April 5, no classes on February 15)

SECOND SESSION (Monday mornings, April 19 through June 21, no classes May 31)

The cost for each student enrolled is $75 per 8-week session. Each family will be charged a $15 registration fee per CMS semester (spring or fall). Maximum enrollment for the Group Piano classes in studio 13 is only 4 students. Students taking violin classes must provide their own instruments -- call for information.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

Group Violin with Martha Herrle     Ages 6-10
This class is for beginners.  Martha teaches in the traditional style (not using the Suzuki method), and students will learn basic music theory and note-reading as they proceed.  You should have your child measured for the proper size violin.  Companies that rent violins are listed on the FAQ page of our website (the cost is approximately $15 per month).  Class size up to 8 students.

Group Piano with Shari Wilcox or Tom Briggs      Ages 6-8 and 9-11
These classes will be taught in our state-of-the-art digital piano lab, using Yamaha YPG (“portable grand”) keyboards.  The maximum class size is 4 students, so if you are interested, call right away!  Shari will teach the younger children, Tom the older children.

Music Theory with Tom Briggs    Ages 9 and up
Taught as a lecture class, this will be an introduction to key signatures, note values, rhythm and musical notation.  Tom will move at a pace appropriate to the age and experience of the class.  Students who already have some experience in this area might prefer to wait until the second session to join the group.  Class size up to 16 students.

General Music with Martha Herrle    Ages 6 and up
This class will introduce children to a variety of musical topics such as the instrument families and different musical genres.  Singing, movement, and playing the recorder will be employed in hands-on music making.  You may join in February or April.  Class size up to 16 students.  Please provide a recorder (plastic is preferable, inexpensive is fine.)

Children’s Chorus with Shari Wilcox     Ages 6 and up
Shari will choose engaging songs for the group in one- and two-part arrangements.  At the end of the session, we’ll have a performance for friends and family!  Class size up to 20 students.
