Groups for Preschool and Kindergarten

KINDERMUSIK® A good beginning never ends.             

Village with Nancy Thomas
Ages 6-18 months, with adult      
Tuesdays: 9-9:40 am                     Two 8-week sessions beginning Feb. 1           $123 per session
Village classes engage your baby with an array of sounds, images, tactile and movement experiences. At home materials include CD, story book, a musical instrument, home journal and carry bag.

Our Time with Nancy Thomas
Ages 18 months-3 years, with adult      
45 minute session; Choose Tues at 10:45 am or Weds at 10 am

16 weeks beginning Feb. 1                                                                                        $228
Children are introduced to singing, chanting, moving, listening and playing simple instruments. Language skills are fostered with songs, sound imitation and vocal play, while creative dancing affirms a child’s urge to keep moving. At home materials include CD, story book, musical instrument and carry case.

Imagine That! with Nancy Thomas
Ages 3-4, without adult                            
Wednesdays: 10:45-11:30 am       16 weeks beginning Feb. 2                              $238
A wide variety of musical subjects and hands-on projects are introduced through singing, listening, moving and exploring. At home materials include CD, songbook, activity cards and backpack.

ABC Music & Me with Nancy Thomas
Ages 4-5, without adult                             
Thursdays: 1–2 pm             Two 8-week sessions beginning Feb. 3                       $299 per session
This new music enrichment program created by Kindermusik Introduces young musicians to composers, songs, and styles from a variety of genres, such as classical jazz, and folk. Provides fun, guided, ensemble-style opportunities for vocal exploration, movement, and instrument play.

Groups for Children & Youth

Music Makers with Amy Hemenway

Grades K-3

Wednesdays: 4 - 4:45 pm  16 weeks beginning Feb. 9                                          $325

Using a variety of engaging activities and games, students will have fun exploring different ways to make music with the piano, guitar, singing and rhythm instruments. Make your own instruments, too!

Introduction to Singing with Shari Wilcox
Grades 1-5
Thursdays: 3:45-4:30 pm  16 weeks beginning Feb. 10                                      $325
For boys and girls who love to sing. It is important to get a good start with proper technique. We will concentrate on solo work in a group setting.

Digital Keyboard Workshop with Tom Briggs

Ages 8 to 13

Day/Time TBD       8 weeks beginning week of March 28                                         $190

Explore the unique capabilities of our state-of-the-art Yamaha digital keyboards and perform creative musical arrangements tailored for the group level. Musical styles will range from classical to pop to jazz. Take home a CD recording of what you've learned! Prerequisite: one year of private piano instruction and/or the ability to read treble and bass clefs and a general understanding of notation, reading, and rhythm.

Group Piano

Ages 6 and up

Mondays: 11 – 11:45 am        8 weeks beginning Feb. 7                                $95

Classes are taught in our state-of-the-art digital piano lab using Yamaha digital keyboards. Opportunities for beginners and intermediate students are offered. Maximum class size is 4.

 

Children's Chorus with Shari Wilcox

Ages 6 and up                              

Mondays: 11 – 11:45 am        8 weeks beginning Feb. 7                                $95    

This class features a selection of engaging songs in one- and two-part arrangements. Includes a performance for friends and family at the end of the session! Maximum class size is 20.

Groups for Adults

Beginning Violin with Martha Herrle

Wednesdays: 11 am - 12 pm       16 weeks beginning Feb. 9                                    $405

This class will be challenging, yet relaxed, and you will be playing before you know it! Please contact CMS for information about renting a violin.

CMS Performing Ensemble with Tom Briggs

Tuesdays: 2 - 3:15 pm        16 weeks beginning Feb. 8                                               $150

For adults who have basic instrumental skills and who enjoy performing a mixed repertoire of folk songs, hymns, jazz, classical and popular music. Open to all brass, winds, strings, piano and percussion. Several public concerts are performed during the semester.

New Horizons Beginners with Patriciay Hurley

Tuesdays and Thursdays : 10 -10:45 am    begins Feb. 8                                             $250

The New Horizons Band of the Connecticut Valley-Shore started last fall. This program allows adults to play an instrument and to participate in the joy of learning and performing with an ensemble. Come join the fun! Like instrument sectional lessons on Tuesdays and Thursday, leading to full band membership.

New Horizons Intermediate Band with Patricia Hurley
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 11-11:45 am               16 weeks beginning Feb. 8             $250
An extension of the New Horizons beginning band, the Intermediate Band is a performing ensemble for adults who completed the New Horizons Beginners program or adults with some prior instrumental experience on band instruments.  Band rehearsals are twice a week with performances scheduled during the semester. Standard band literature graded level 1-2 in all styles and genres will be performed.

New Horizons Musicianship Class II with Patricia Hurley
Thursdays: 9:15-10 am                   6 weeks beginning March 3                                   $120
The musicianship class will cover topics of music theory related to the band curriculum, including note reading and note values, time signatures, rhythm and meter, dynamics, articulation, accidentals and intervals. Each session will also include ear training. Prerequisite: completion of Musicianship Class I or instructor approval.
