cms jazz ensemble
The opportunity to play in a group is an important part of music instruction and a valuable supplement to private lessons. Ensembles meet weekly, working on repertoire for community performances. Instrumentalists are welcome to join our ensembles whether or not they are also taking private lessons at Community Music School.
The CMS Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned group of young musicians from age 13-17. They perform in two or more concerts each year, under the direction of Tom Briggs. These talented instrumentalists play a variety of instruments including brass, woodwind, percussion and strings. Mr. Briggs arranges the music each semester to accommodate the students who make up the ensemble.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn some of the classic jazz pieces by the great jazz composers. Students are also coached in improvisation techniques and given the chance to be in the solo spotlight.
