THEORY AND PERFORMANCE

NEW! Theory and Performance (TAP) program

CMS’s Theory and Performance (TAP) Program develops students’ musical understanding and skills to a high level and provides opportunities to apply that knowledge in performances.

TAP Tuition: $1,280 per semester, includes registration fee, student concert admissions, workshops, theory workbook, and some materials.

Enrollment Requirements

The TAP program is designed for the motivated student who has a great interest in performing. To be eligible, students must be at least 11 years old and have played their selected instrument for at least 3 years. If a student has been studying for less than 3 years, an audition may be requested for admittance into the program.

Chamber ensemble rehearsals are Mondays at 4 pm. Students are encouraged to schedule private lessons on Mondays.

TAP Program Elements:

45-minute Lesson with  Music Theory - Each student will work with their instructor in a 45-minute private lesson that will include music theory. An individual achievement plan with stated goals and objectives will be developed at the onset of the semester and a written evaluation will be provided at mid-term and the end of the semester. Students may opt to participate in an annual jury adjudicated by CMS faculty.

Performance - Chamber music ensembles will be assigned at the beginning of each semester and will meet for weekly Monday rehearsals, working on repertoire for performances at CMS events under the direction of a TAP faculty member.

Chamber Music Concerts - The TAP program promotes an appreciation for musical performance and respect for artists. Students will have an opportunity to attend area chamber  music concerts and participate in post-concert discussions with artists and faculty.

Master Classes - Master classes by guest artists will be presented once per semester for all TAP students.

Workshops - TAP faculty members will present special workshops on a number of topics throughout the semester.
