Patricia Hurley
Trumpet, New Horizons Band Director
Patricia Hurley founded the Community Music School in 1983 in response to a need for local private music instruction to enhance the public school music programs. At the time, she was Director of Music at John Winthrop Junior High School, and soon thereafter, added the position of Band Director at Valley Regional High School. In 1991 her teaching position was eliminated and she took a position as music instructor in the Scarsdale, NY schools, where she remained until 2005. Upon her return to Ivoryton, she found that CMS had grown considerably and was occupying three times the space that it had in 1991. She joined the Board of Directors and participated in a further expansion, when the latest space in Spencer’s Corner was purchased this year. She is now on the faculty as trumpet teacher and Director of the New Horizons Band. She is very pleased and proud that the Community Music School is serving a large segment of our community and fulfilling a dream to make music education a viable part of the lives of its residents of all ages.
Patricia performs frequently with her brass quartet, Fair Winds, as well as with Cappella Cantorum and the Norwalk Symphony, among other organizations. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Ivoryton Library and the Program Committee for Young Audiences. An avid bicycler, kayaker and rollerblader, she takes advantage of the Ivoryton Library French classes and takes pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren as well as concert and play-going with friends.
